Why scooters cause problems
1. Other people- Like any vehicle, owning/using any type of scooter can cause problems, particular for other road users and pedestrians who you share the road/footpath with. In the year 2000, there were more than 40,000 injuries related to scooters in Australia. Out of those 40,000, approximately 85 percent of them involved children under the age of 15. Many more accidents happen in other countries of the world because of people who don’t take enough care when using there scooter. Remember that scooters are still a relatively slow form of transport in comparison to the car, lorry or bus. As a result, riders of scooters should take care or you may be come one of the next accidents on the list. Most accidents can be certainly avoided. So much of being safe on the road/footpath with your scooter is common-sense and thinking clearly by the individual driving/controlling the scooter. One common sense rule when you have your scooter could be to avoid potentially dangerous situations, by not taking any risks which endanger yourself and fellow road/footpath users. This include not drinking alcoholic drink before riding or turn your scooter at top speed round corners. Other golden rules when riding your scooter is not to carry passengers, wear seat-belts and don’t mount or dismount your scooters unless brake is engaged when you ride your scooter.
2. Technical- Like any device, scooters can break down at any time, at any place. Some of the problems with scooters include mechanical/maintenance problems ranging from a dead battery through problems with the switches and fuses on the scooter. Other technical problems could include problems with the motor or wheels. Regular maintenance checks by you and with you supplier, can avoid some these types of problems happening now and in the future. This can also reduce your chance of a possible accident if the vehicle is maintained and looked after by the owner or owners.
